"The Tribute"
An Hourglass Traditional Tattoo
How do you pay tribute to a loved one who is no longer here?
This client was clear about it. He wanted to wear something on his skin that he could touch whenever his grandfather came to mind. Something that, upon seeing it, would give him strength and make him understand that he had to move on.
I asked him:
"Your grandfather had something he held dear."
"A pocket watch. He always carried his pocket watch."
At that moment, I knew what I had to design.
I decided to merge that watch with a sand clock, representing the finite existence state.
I replaced the sand with blood to represent life more powerfully.
Finally, we added the dates of birth and death to represent better the message we were trying to convey.
This work was completed in a 6-hour session, with a size of 10 x 7 inches and a price of $1,000.
